When is the weather gonna get normal again? It didn't stop raining all day. Upside - there was a major drop in temperature. 17 Dancers through the door, we did dance 2 squares most of the night. Thanks to those that braved the relentless rain. We did a bracket with a 6 couple Rectangle - mixed success from both sides of the microphone. Really nice to have Glenys with us after an extended absence from dancing. Mayet would have won the members draw, but she wasn't wearing her badge (Sorry Mayet, you don't have a really good excuse).
Let's hope all goes well for next week - here's my wishlist.
1. Dry - no rain
2. Cool - around early to mid 20's
3. Not Humid - sick of feeling sticky

Will Summer ever end (Yes, I know it's Autumn). Another hot night at UpBeat. Grateful that the dancers are still enthusiastic. 3 squares to start the night - 27 dancers through the door. Great to see Denice back at club, she's been away on an extended holiday. Hazel's name came up for the members draw, but she wasn't wearing her badge. We gave her a "Hall Pass" because they are still unpacking after their recent move - a show of hands allowed her to take the $10. We finished 15 minutes early due to the heat. We are hosting the Society AGM on Sunday, starting at 2pm.

Still a bit of rain around, but the temperature was a little better. 22 dancers through the door. For the first time this year, we managed a full night of dancing. There are still a couple of our friends we haven't seen this year.
Played with quite a few movements from different arrangements, the dancers did quite well.
Bill would have won the members draw, but he's away on a cruise.
Finished with 3 Singing Calls while the dancers swapped in and out.

Still very hot, but at least there were no storms last night. 28 dancers through the doors, we had a really fun night. There are still a few people away for various reasons. Played with Track 2 and Crossfire, as well as other moves. Great to see Kate with her new club badge, and now she is in the members draw. Speaking of which, Darin won the draw last night ($15). We did still finish a few minutes early due to the heat. Back to my original laptop after its repair and refurbishment, all good.
Don't forget we are hosting the Society AGM at 2pm on the 8th March. Only 2 1/2 weeks to go.

Well , we had another go at it tonight. With a number of dancers still on Holidays, numbers are down. 21 dancers through the door, and we were having fun. Despite the heat, it was all going well. Typical Queensland, the storm hit about 8.30pm. we decided it might be wise to call it a night and get everybody home safe. I am really over the weather this year so far. Yes , I know, there are people in real trouble because of the weather. We'll try again next week for a full night of dancing. But at least the equipment was working well.

Well, a bit of a mess tonight. Great to see all the dancers, all 27 who turned up in horrendous heat. Then realised I'd brought no coffee cups. Used the china cups at the hall. Had to go and buy some dish washing liquid. Then about 10 past 8, my computer decided to die. Turns out the charger is buggered. Had no back-up, so had to call it a night. For the first 10 years or so of using Laptops, always carried a back- up and have never needed it. Stopped carrying a back-up about 5 years ago. Needed it tonight. I've just ordered a new charger from HP. In the mean time, the charger from my other HP laptop is working. Next week is another day. Nobody was too upset at going home due to the heat.

2nd December 2019
It was the most wonderful night of the year, well....... maybe not, it sure was up there with the best.
But it was full of Christmas spirit. Plenty of dancers, 37 through the door.
Due to the heat, we only danced 4 squares just the once, the rest of the night was mostly 3.
Visitors from Suncoasters and EZ squares. Really great to have Elaine with us for a few calls.
Being a free night, everybody supported the raffle. there were 8 prizes - nearly 200 tickets sold.
Supper was fabulous, more than anyone could want or need.
You know it's been a good night, when the hall is still buzzing long after the dancing and clean-up is finished and you are contemplating turning the lights off to get them to leave.
I want to thank all the members and visitors for a very successful 2019 and hope that 2020 continues the same way. Thank you also to the dancers for the lovely card (signed by all) and the very generous cash gift, you know it will eventually be spent on new music and equipment to make our dances even more fun. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We'll see you all again on February 3rd in the new year.
See pictures HERE - Thanks Suzie Dillon for some of the pics

Another fun night by the Bay. 33 dancers in the hall. We didn't crack 4 squares but we danced 3 most of the night. Our focus move for the evening was "Co-ordinate". The only formation available is columns but there are 6 gender arrangements as well as "Left" to play with. Suzie won the members draw, so it's back to $5 for next week.
Next week is also our Christmas & Break Up party.
All Plus dancers are welcome. Christmas Dress and please bring a Plate.
Yes, there will be a massive raffle. See you there!!

Well, the square dance year is drawing to a close, 2 weeks to go now. 24 dancers in the hall, we did dance 3 squares just the once. Great to have Bruce, Gail and Linda back after extended absences. Still at least 12 on the sick parade or travelling. Apparently Graham Lawson is out of hospital, but won't be dancing, good luck Mate!!
I decided we would not have a workshop this week, we just danced. The members draw would have been Martin, but he's travelling, so it jackpots again. Looking forward to Our Christmas dance on the 2nd December, all Plus dancers are welcome. Please bring a plate.

Another warm night at Deception Bay. Started with 3 squares and gradually shifted to 2. There were 27 dancers in the hall. I counted at least 12 away for various reasons. Our focus move last night was Chase Right - we looked at it from quite a few different arrangements - it doesn't have a lot of variety in the formations available. Margaret Baines again had a range of ladies clothing available for sale. Richard would have won the members draw, but he was away, so it jackpots to $20 next week. Only 3 more nights dancing at Upbeat this year. Don't forget our Christmas party on the 2nd December,. Bring a plate and some change for the raffle.

A hot night, but plenty of dancers came along for a good time. 30 dancers through the door, we mostly danced 3 squares. Quite a few on the sick parade still, we hope they're well soon. Our "Focus" move last night was "And Spread". We explored the options that it gives us. Margaret Baines was with us, she was able to dance a couple of brackets and had a bunch of clothes to sell. The ladies were very interested. Marty would have won the members draw, but he was absent, it jackpots again. Dancers are looking forward to the society Christmas party this coming Saturday. Only 4 weeks of dancing left for the year. Our Christmas Party/Break Up is the December 2nd - wear your favourite Christmas outfit and please bring a plate.

Well, what a night, I wish I could say I was on top of my game, just one of those nights where I couldn't think quick enough. We had 27 dancers in the hall, which I thought was really good considering a lot of dancers were dancing all weekend at the Shindig. We started with 3 squares and settled down to 2. Our focus movemement last night was "AND ROLL". Right & Left Thru & Roll will need more work. Good to see Margaret Baines along last night too. Linda Long would have won the members draw if she'd been there, it jackpots for next week.

What a hall full of dancers last night!
Started with 3 squares which quickly went to 4, 33 dancers through the door.
I had some 2nd hand ladies dancewear to give away, it didn't last long.
Our focus move for the 3rd bracket was All 8 Spin the Top, I thought it went quite well.
Thelli won the members draw. Some bad news, Marty is in hospital with heart issues, they're still investigating.
It is great to see Jim back on the dance floor after his heart issues.
Finished the night with a couple of UpBeat singing calls.
Dancers are looking forward to the Shindig in Gympie this weekend.

Is this a great club or what? Had a great time last night.
3 squares for a large portion of the night - 31 dancers in the hall.
Great to have Jan back after recent health issues. Also good the have Heather back after a recent fall.
It was also Desiree's birthday. Jan had a "Big 0" birthday last Friday.
Our focus movement last night was Acey Deucey, we did it from quite a few Formations & Arrangements.
Sharyn won the members draw ($10), so it's back to $5 next week.
I also did a couple of new songs that have yet to be officially released.

How hot was it dancing last night? 3 squares dancing most of the time, with 30 dancers through the door.
At least half a square away due to illness or accident. Good to see Margaret Baines with us again.
Started the workshop bracket idea last night, I think we now have a better understanding of Load the Boat.
The members draw did not go off, so it jackpots to $10 next week.
Had quite a few positive comments about the night.

The dark clouds rolled in just as I was leaving for the dance, but no rain.
28 Dancers came along to enjoy our Black & White party night.
Great to see Margaret Baines (she even had a couple of dances). We danced 3 squares about 1/2 the night.
Also great to have Rob & Elaine Davis join us. I got to enjoy a dance while Elaine called.
Plenty of raffle prizes, thanks to those that donated extra prizes. Betty won the members draw.
There was so much supper, we didn't quite manage to eat it all. And just as we finished packing up to leave, the heavens opened. What a downpour!! I know we need the rain, but another 10 minutes would have been nice.

Great dancing at Upbeat last night. 29 dancers through the door, we danced 3 squares nearly all of the night.
Great to have Russell & Suzie back after their travels. Worked on Relay the Deucey from quite a few different arrangements. David Pearce won the members draw, it's back to $5 next week.
Don't forget, next week is our Black & White party night. Please bring a plate, and yes, there will be a raffle.

Well we had 20 dancers last night at UpBeat. We also had another 3 recovering from recent surgery but who wanted to come along to socialise. Great to have Jim, Faith and Barry along. So we danced 2 squares most of the time. I wore my new vest (made by my daughter Michelle). We played with some T-Bone Load the Boats.
Sue Ettles would have won the Members draw but she was away, it jackpots next week. Only 2 weeks until our next Party night - It's a "Black & White" theme, please bring a plate - visitors welcome

Another good night at UpBeat. 25 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares about 1/2 of the night. We got ourselves into some interesting arrangements. Had fun with a new Zoom routine. Our recent graduates are doing well. Our banner carriers for the State Convention are arranged. Karen Gray would have won the members draw but she wasn't there, jackpots to $10 next week. Remember, we are dancing next week.

Had a great time at UpBeat last night. 29 dancers in the hall, danced 3 squares nearly all of the night.
Still counted a full square away for various reasons, holidays, illness etc.
Worked hard on Load the Boat from Tidal Waves, it is a work in progress and is improving.
Russell would have won the members draw, but he's away.
A number of dancers stopped by the stage to tell me what a good time they were having.
I also love it when dancers ask me to clarify a movement in the break, means they care about getting it right.

Great night at UpBeat. Started with 4 squares on the floor and tapered off to 3 during the night. 33 dancers through the door. Must have been in a country mood, played a few from the greats, Don Williams, Charlie Pride. Great to have Susan Young back - she's not dancing yet after her foot operation, but she's back. Denice won the members draw, only $5.00. David & Faith will now be away for a month, Russell and Suzie even longer. Great to have Bill & Joan back after holidays & illness.
As you might know it's "Show" season. The "Ekka" is the next week or so, but last weekend was the Pine Rivers Show at Lawnton Showgrounds. Desiree won a Trophy and Sash for "Champion Vegetable" for her Pumpkin.

Upbeat Chaos certainly went Country last night. 4 squares for the first few brackets, then 3 for the rest of the night. 35 dancers in the hall, still had a few apologies. Wonderful to have Frances & John from Goonellabah, N.S.W. Frances calls for Summerland Larrikins in Alstonville and she did call a great bracket for us. The raffle was well supported. The massive Fruit & Vege tray was won by Hazel. 2nd prize was chocolate, also won by Hazel. 3rd prize was some chocolates donated by David & Faith and won by Annette. 4th & 5th prizes were beautiful orchids donated by Jim and won by Betty & Faith. Russell won the members draw $10.
We danced to some very old and reasonably new Country Music. Way Out West by James's Blundell & Reyne, all the way back to Alabama Jubilee written in 1915. There was soooooo much supper. If you went away hungry, it was your own fault. Thank you everyone, for making it such a wonderful night.

Great night at Upbeat last night. 33 dancers through the doors. Started with 4 squares, finished with 3 - still a few apologies. The recent graduates are doing well, getting better each week. We reviewed: Follow Your Neighbour, with and without Spread. Gail would have won the member draw had she been there - a bit worried, haven't seen them for a while. Looking forward to our Country & Western night next week. Raflle prizes are looking good - please bring a plate, and yes, we would love it if there was some food on it. I have my costume organised, do you?
Great night at Upbeat last night. 33 dancers through the doors. Started with 4 squares, finished with 3 - still a few apologies. The recent graduates are doing well, getting better each week. We reviewed: Follow Your Neighbour, with and without Spread. Gail would have won the member draw had she been there - a bit worried, haven't seen them for a while. Another great night at UpBeat. 30 dancers through the door. Started with 3 squares and finished with 3 squares. Great to have Mayet back, got the last teach for "Crossfire" done. Great to have a visitor Robert, from Melbourne with us. He's up here visiting with friends. Jim (Sharon) won the $10 members draw. Only 2 weeks until the Country & Western party night - bring a plate please, and there will be a raffle. After that we'll just all dance as one big group all night for the rest of the year.

What a night. 35 dancers in the hall. Started the night with 4 squares, finished with 3. As it is still school holidays, I brought Sheryl & Natasha along. Everyone was on top of their game (even me) and we all had a lot of fun. Reviewed Crossfire a little and split into 2 couple squares to get the Centre part of Load the Boat down pat. Did a couple of new songs and requests. Margaret (& Michael) would have won the members draw, but they are away overseas, it jackpots for next week. It's only 3 weeks until our Country & Western Party night. After that night, there will be no more Learners / Experienced dancers, we will be one big happy family.

Another good night at Upbeat, even if I was having a bit of a "full moon" night. A little trouble with resolution. 29 dancers through the door. 3 squares for the "New" brackets and 2 for the Experienced brackets. Re-taught Diamonds, because one of class members (Mayet) was away for the original teach, good to have her back. Barry Ball won the members draw.

Well, Revision and Practice for our new Plus dancers. 28 dancers through the door, however, a number had to leave before dancing started (car troubles and health problems). Still, we had 25 to dance. We danced just the 2 squares all night. A number of other apologies due to illness and accidents. We played with Load the Boat and Explodes from Tidal Waves... interesting. Susan won the members draw, but gave it back later when she realised she wasn't wearing her badge. I hadn't noticed either.

It has to happen occassionally I suppose, numbers were well down last night. 22 dancers in the hall, we did dance 2 squares all night. Teaching Crossfire was fun, Well, sort of!!
2 Faced Lines, Left & Right, Tidal 2 Faced Lines, Inverted Lines, Ends In & Out, Lines of 4 Facing In & Out,
1/4 Lines, we will obviously need more practice.
On the whole, it's not the new Plus movements that are the issue, it's the Basics. Great to have Rob, Elaine & Julie-Anne visiting last night. Betty won the members draw. Hope everyone is feeling better for next week.
The class is finished but we will continue with alternate brackets for a few more weeks, probably until the middle of July. Then we will be just one big happy Plus club.

A lot of fun last night. 32 dancers through the doors. We danced 3 squares for the first half of the night and then 2. We reviewed Spin Chain the Gears and Exchange the Gears.
Re-taught Diamonds for the few that missed last week. Only one more move to go "Cross Fire".
Susan looked good in her new badge, she's now eligible to be in the members draw.
It didn't go off this week because Bruce wasn't there, so it will jackpot to $10 next week.

Well, quite a few apologies this week. 23 dancers through the door. So we danced 2 squares all night. Well wishes to all those with medical issues. Those on holiday - have fun!!.
As they say, Diamonds are a girls best friend. We played with Diamonds.
We made them, flipped 'em, cut 'em, circulated 'em, faced 'em , point to pointed 'em, acey dueced 'em, swung thru them and then we looked at Concentrics.
Due to a number of the learners away, we'll do them again next week too. Denice won the members draw.
Only 2 more weeks of the learners class to go, then look out!!

Just another great night at Upbeat Chaos. 34 dancers through the door.
We only danced 4 squares once, but mostly 3 for the rest of the night. Equal best numbers this year
Newer dancers learned "And Roll" as well as "Peel the Top", they are all doing really well.
Only Diamonds and Crossfire to go.
Even though she's not dancing at the moment, Desiree was there wearing her badge and won the members draw.
Great to have Margaret & Michael back after their convention trip and associated illness.
We'll miss Greg & Anne next week, he's off to W.A. for family.

24 dancers last night, but it felt different without Betty on the door. Thanks Suzie, for standing in.
Started with 3 squares but danced 2 the rest of the night. We're really getting through the learners class. Trade the Wave, Dixie Grand and Relay the Deucey last night. Will be done by the middle of next month. The tricky bits still tend to be Basic movements. We still have all the learners that started with us in March. Faith won the members draw. I'm very grateful to all those dancers who help set-up chairs & tables and sort out the kitchen - Thank you.

Well, what a crowd at Upbeat last night. 31 dancers through the door. Danced 3 squares at times during the night. Great to have Rob & Elaine Davis with us - Rob is now retired. Elaine called a bracket. The learners reviewed all that we have done and learned Spin Chain & Exchange the Gears. Barry Ball won the members draw.

Another good night at UpBeat. Even with a long weekend, there were 24 dancers in the hall.
We did dance 3 squares, but it was mostly 2. New dancers learned All 8 Spin the Top, Anything & Spread as well as Track 2. We worked LH Relay the Deucey with the regular club dancers. Joan won the members draw.
A number of regular dancers away and a couple not yet back from Tassie. Good to have Heather & Thelli back. Looks like Betty will be on a road trip next week.

Awesome night at UpBeat tonight. Started with 3 squares but danced 2 squares most of the night. 25 dancers in the door. It was a BLUE party night. I did BLUE songs all night, everybody (mostly) dressed in BLUE. Table decorations were BLUE and some of the food was BLUE. We had raffle prizes as is usual on our party nights. Denice won the 2 major Priizes and Margaret won the mystery 3rd Prize while Mayet won the 4th prize Orchid donated by Jim. The members draw failed to go off. Also great to have Di back dancing after her recent holiday. One interesting thing happened at the start of the night. When I was at my other club last week, I had a guest caller - When I went to plug in my computer tonight , I realised that I had my guest callers power cord and obviously he has mine. The battery was at 100% , so I carried on. Got all the way to the last bracket . I said if the battery dies in this bracket , we'll have an early supper - which is exactly what happened. Nobody minded, we all had a laugh and enjoyed the supper. See pictures HERE

22nd April 2019 - No Dancing (Easter Monday)
15th April 2019
A good night at UpBeat last night. 25 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares for about 1/2 the night. Visitors last night were Sheryl & Natasha Townson and Graham Young. We learned Co-ordinate, Follow your Neighbour and Single Circle (& 3/4) to a Wave. I think the new format of alternate brackets worked well and the dancers seemed to agree. Barry Ball won the members draw. Don't forget, no dancing next week on the 22nd and Party night on the the 29th. Wear something Blue and please bring a plate.

I'm struggling to make the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3, dance work.
I feel it would benefit everyone, including me, if we make each week 1/2 & 1/2 with alternate brackets all night.
Everyone will get a fair shake. Notwithstanding that I've been struggling with the timing of the levels within the evening, It was another good night at UpBeat. 27 dancers through the door, 3 squares most of the night. Good to have Sheryl Townson visiting. Really good to have Denice back after her long holiday to South America. Apologies from Margaret, Jan & Malcolm. We learned "Spin Chain the Gears", I thought they did really well. Still working on "Load the Boat", other movements are going fine. Desiree won the members draw, it's back to $5 next week.
Had another badge request tonight, welcome Lyndel as a club member.

Arrived really early last night, had to meet a representative from the community centre - they wanted a catch up on paperwork and emergency procedures for the local Council. It was a good night with 26 dancers through the door. Consolidation for the learners - "Load the Boat" is still a work in progress for some. Gonna teach "Spin Chain the gears " next week, fingers crossed. At least the weather was kind, starting to feel like Autumn. The member draw did not go off, the jackpot is $15 next week.

Another good night at Upbeat. 26 dancers through the door. We did dance 3 squares for a while.
I admit that I wasn't 100% on my game last night - for some reason. All 6 of our newer/refresher dancers are still with us. We worked with "Explode And" & "Explode the Wave" as well as revision.
I'm gonna have a consolidation week next week, no new stuff. It's still hot as, and I'm sure that is having an effect.
Laurie would have won the members draw, had he been there.
Malcolm and Mayet now have their new club badges.

Another good night. The afternoon storm cooled things down a bit, so it was better dancing weather. 28 dancers through the door, danced 3 squares a lot of the night. More than a square of our regulars away for various reasons. All of our newer dancers except 1, were there. Margie from Caboolture was along to brush up her PLUS skills. Great to have Glenys with us and for the first time this year, Barry Brown. Taught, Fan the Top, Load the Boat and Ping Pong Circulate. I think Fan the Top gave us the most trouble. Sharyn won the members draw and I also had 2 requests for badges - more members Yay!!

Well, was it hot, hot, hot last night? Still it was an awesome night. 34 dancers through the door. We started with 4 squares and then danced 3 for most of the night. All of our newer/refresher dancers were back for more learning, we even had 1 extra. Taught Acey Deucey, Teacup Chain and Linear Cycle, they are all going well. Sue Ettles would have won the members draw. Thanks to all the Angels for helping get the newer dancers through.

First night of Plus learners last night. 31 dancers through the door. We danced 3 squares most of the night.
It meant we could spread the 6 newer dancers amongst the regular dancers and get a better success rate.
The new dancers are Mary, Gloria, Lyndel, Mayet, Greg & Anne
We only did 3 movements, Chase Right/Left, Grand Swing Thru and Peel Off.
Great to see everybody coming along and supporting the class.
I tried to keep the night moving, so everyone got a fair shake.
Darren was back for the first time this year and he won the members draw.

Well, it was a lot more pleasant weather for dancing. 27 dancers in the hall, we danced 3 squares for the early part of the evening. Good to have Barry, Carol, Bill, Joan and Linda back on the dance floor. Denice is away to South America for 6 weeks. Bruce & Gail are now away for a few months on their caravan trip to Tassy for the National. I wonder how many we'll get for the start of classes next week? The members draw did not go off, it jackpots for next week.

Great night at Upbeat. At least 5 dancers got there before me. 24 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares for a few brackets. Played with some left handed Spin Chain & Exchange the Gears. Also some assymetrical Relay the Deucey & Dixie Grand. Great to see Jan, Rod & Margaret back on the dance floor. We should have Barry & Carol back with us next week, they've been overseas. Glenys won the members draw. Finally the heat has backed off just a little, a bit more comfortable to dance.

Another hot night, it's great that people are still coming out to dance. 18 dancers in the hall. Started with 1 square, then 2 for most of the night and 1 at the end. Joan would have won the members draw, had she been there, she does have a good excuse though. Looking forward to the change of season.

4th February 2019 - First dance of the year
19 dancers in the hall for what was quite a hot night - and humid due to the rain. Quite a few aplogies for various reasons. Started the night with a 6 couple dance and then danced 2 squares for most of the night and then only 1 for the last few brackets. There were a couple of "what the hell did he call" moments, but dancers weren't as rusty as they might have been. Gail won the members draw. Our learner/refresher course starts on the 4th of March.

3rd December 2018 - Last dance of the year - Christmas Party
What a great way to end the year at Upbeat Chaos. 35 dancers in the hall, most dressing a little Christmassy. A nice change to have a guest caller for the evening, Thank you Elaine Davis. The songs were all Christmas, all night. Also really nice to have Margaret Baines with us for the Evening - thanks to Desiree & John for bringing her. Margaret brought her usual Santa chocolates for everyone. Quite a number of raffles were donated, even a toothbrush (BBQ grill cleaner) as a booby/consolation prize. There was a lot of supper donations, I don't think anyone went away hungry. Thanks to all the club members for a really great dance year in 2018, I hope we continue bigger and better next year. Remember that we start back at 7pm on the 4th February 2019

Last night was also a special night for one of our dancers David Pearce. As you know David was a caller for 46 years before retiring last Christmas. Last night the Queensland Callers Association presented him with a certificate for his dedication to the activity over all that time. Well done David, and well deserved. In his acceptance, he paid tribute to Faith for all that she did to support him.
26th November 2018
Quite a number away last night. 16 dancers in the hall. We still danced 2 squares about 1/2 the time. Did one bracket of 6 couple dancing. Linda won the members draw again. Left handed Spin Chain & Exchange the Gears is a challenge, must do more of it. Finished with a couple of requests. Next week is our break-up Christmas party, please bring a plate. Wear your favourite Christmas outfit.

I just looked at numbers for the last year. The average number of dancers this year was 21, a little shy of 3 squares each night. The highest number was 32, it would be nice to beat that number for our final night of 2018 on Monday 3rd December.
Our lowest attended night was 12, the coldest part of the year.
Thank you to all our members and visitors for dancing with us throughout the year.

Really enjoyed last night. A few apologies, but there were 19 dancers in the hall, we danced 2 squares most of the night. Di was back after her cruise. Linda won the members draw. 2 more weeks until our Christmas party.
If you were unaware, today was Margaret Baine's 80th Birthday.

Numbers down a little last night. 19 dancers in the hall. A lot of laughs to be had. With her right arm in a sling, Faith did a great job keeping up with everything. Jim won the members draw at $20. Only three more dance nights this year. Our Christmas party is the 3rd of December - please bring a plate for supper.

Who turned the furnace up? Last night was a little warm. Only 15 brave souls came out to dance. We played with some interesting stuff and the breaks were a little longer than usual. Members draw will jackpot to $20 next week. We also finished a bit early due to the heat.

Great night at UpBeat. 26 dancers in the hall for a Ghoulish night of Plus dancing. Fabulous to have Gary visiting the club. Plenty of themed dress by the dancers.
Halloween music had us all dancing along with witches and ghouls and giggles. Great opportunity to extend catching up with more silliness with made up moves in one of Gary’s calls and Glenn's appropriately themed music selection.
Plenty of Raffle prizes too - Bunnings Vouchers, Boxes of Chocolates, Bottle of wine and as usual some of Jim's beautiful flowers. Thanks to all those that donated prizes. Thanks also to those that "brought a plate", there was certainly plenty of food. See pictures HERE

Had a really great time with 20 dancers in the hall last night. Danced 2 squares most of the night. Did one bracket of 6 couple rectangle. I think it went well, probably the best I've called it. The nights are starting to warm up. At least it's better than the rainy nights we've had lately. Great to have Glenys with us. And I know Bruce will love this - he would have won the members draw had he been here.

Many square dancers are part of other community organisations. Russell Wall is one of them.
40 years with the S.E.S. is a massive achievement. Well Done and Thank You Russell.

Well, is it good weather for ducks, or what!! Still, 21 dancers arrived early at Upbeat. We started dancing at 10 to 7. Two squares most of the night. Played with "Load the Boat" from Tidal Waves and also played with Facing Diamonds, no troubles at all. Joan won the members draw. 2 weeks until our Halloween night.

Thunderstorms & Lightning, very, very Frightning. So, 17 dancers braved the expected thunderstorms and rain. We did dance 2 squares most of the night. Because it got hot at one stage, I opened the back door, but then the rain started pouring in. Had to get a mop out to clean up. Played with "Load the Boat" from T-bones. Hazel would have won the members draw if she'd been there, it jackpots again. By the time we finished, the weather had improved.

Public Holiday Monday, still 23 dancers in the hall. Danced 2 squares from start to finish. Plenty of extra dancers, so everyone could grab a cuppa when they wanted. Had a little play with Crossfire Twice - it's definately a work in progress. Joan wasn't there, so the members draw jackpots. It must be spring, judging by the amount of vegetables coming in from the various gardens of our dancers. Thanks to all the dancers for the help setting up and packing up, it certainly makes things easier.

Fantastic night at UpBeat. 25 dancers in the hall, great to see most of our regulars. Margaret Baines came for a visit, no dancing though. Joan won the members draw. David & Faith brought along some home grown veges for the members. Just seemed to be a really fun "upbeat" dance night. Please excuse the Pun.
Finished the night with a couple of requests.

Also had Rosie's Mum's funeral today - the service went well, it was a nice send off for Mum.

Tough day at the Hospital with Rosalie today. Then a phone call to tell us her Mum had passed away. So, up to Inverpine residential to see her. 24 dancers in the hall for dancing. Best numbers in the last month or so. I wish I'd been more up to it than I was. The Dancers decided that we needed to finish a little early so I could be with Rosalie. They are such a nice bunch of people, I don't like to let them down. Next week will be better.

Really enjoyed the night. 20 dancers in the hall. Danced 2 squares all but one bracket, when a few decided they needed a cuppa. Stiill playing with "Peel the Top" from a few different formations. Tried out my new song "Jungle to the Zoo" , it went over well. Barry Brown won the members draw.

18 dancers in the hall, danced 2 squares most of the night. Good to have David & Faith back from their trip. The floor started off a little sticky, but was improved after I mopped it with hot water. Played with "Peel the Top" from LH & RH columns, also with the Heads/Sides in a LH or RH Box between the Sides/Heads. We'll be working on it more as time goes on. Russell Wall won the $30 members draw.

Basically a carbon copy of last week, just different visitors. Great to have Dick & Karen join us. Still 17 dancers in the hall. Did one 6 couple bracket. Members draw still building. Again, the last bracket or 2 only had 1 square. Yes, we will be dancing on the public holiday on the 1st of October (Queen's Birthday).

I think I'm a bit over Winter. 17 dancers in the hall last night. Danced 2 squares most of the night. Great to have a visitor, Nelson from Tasmania. He seemed to have a good time. Soooo many of our dancers sick, injured or on holiday. The members draw didn't go off, so it jackpots to $25.00 next week. We did one bracket of 6 couple dancing and the last bracket only had 1 square

Had a good night at Upbeat. Numbers down to 18 due to a few medical procedures and other illnesses. We danced 2 squares most of the time. The members draw is still jackpotting. We are in the process of deciding whether we'll dance on the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday 1st October - watch this space. Just for a change, it was quite a warm night, bring on Spring - please!!

Well, some of the ugliest women and good looking fellas I've seen in a lonng while. Cross dressing at UpBeat. 23 dancers in the hall. So we danced 2 squares all night. See a couple of pics on the PAST EVENTS page
I can't deal with a handbag and long hair, I don't know how you ladies do it. The raffles went off well but the members draw jackpots to $15.00 next weekl. Plenty of supper, I tried but there was still some left overs. Sorry that Russell was unable to attend, his Mum isn't well. A shame a few of our other regulars were unable to attend due to illness.

Well, Post Convention dance night. We had 17 dancers in the hall. Great to see Jim & Sharon again. A visit from Sylvia Pitt of Gumdale. I admit to being a little tired and so were some dancers. A good thing we weren't counting each others faux pas. Rod would have won the members draw had he been there. Did one 6 couple rectangle session.

We had a wonderful night at Upbeat last night. 25 dancers in the hall. Plus, Glenys dropped in for a visit - she's still recovering from her illness. Jim & Sharyn dropped in too. Jim is still recovering from his operation. We had a great dance, 3 squares about 1/2 the time. Great also, to have Ron & Hazel back, and wouldn't you know it - Hazel won the members draw, 1st night back. Really enjoying the dancers wanting to experiment with new choreo.

Another great UpBeat dance night. 22 dancers in the hall, danced 2 squares all night. Still, there were a few apologies for various reasons. I think the cold is affecting numbers a little. It might seem "Out there" but we did explore "Ends & Centres, both do the Ends part of Load the Boat", not too bad eventually. Also played with Crossfire from "Ends In-Inverted Lines". Heather won the members draw ($10)

We had 20 dancers in the hall last night. It might have been a "Full Moon", we had some issues with a few things that we normally do without issues. Had a look at Crossfire from Facing Lines, a lot of fun initially, then they got it. Good to have Russell & Di back from their travels. Quite a few of our regulars away for various reasons.
Members draw jackpots until next week.

Great night at UpBeat. 25 dancers in the hall, danced 3 squares probably half the night. Continuing with the "And Roll" & the "And Spread" calls. Dancers wishing Graham Lawson well with his recent health concerns. Good to see Margaret back with us.

17 dancers in the hall, danced 2 squares most of the night. I think the appeal of a warm armchair in front of the television won out last night. Still we had fun and that's the main thing.
Played with Peel Off and continuing with our work on Crossfire.
All 8 Spin the Top and Spread is starting to look good. Jan Hay won the member draw of $30.00.

Still working on Spread from Allemande Thar formation. Great to see that the hall owners have fixed the Boiling/Iced water tap. If Russell Wall had been there last night, he would have won the members draw - it's up to $30 next week.

Well, lousy weather last night. Combined with a public holiday, a number of people on holidays and we had 12 dancers in the hall. Good to have Bill, Joan, Bruce & Gail back with us after their W.A. trip. tried some new formations for Crossfire & Peel the Top. Also Split Circ. 1 1/2 to a Diamond. Member draw is still jackpotting, $25 next week, Carole ball would have won, if she'd beeen there. Will seriously consider whether we dance on this night next year.

Well, numbers really down last night. 16 dancers through the door. We did dance 2 squares for the first bracket, then 1 for the rest of the night. The Floor was pretty sticky which didn't help dancer success. Member draw didn't go off, so it jackpots again for next week to $15. Next week is Bring a plate for our Black & White Party night.

Numbers a little down as predicted, 23 dancers in the hall. Brand new floor started off a little slippery, but got better as the night progressed. With the stage curtains removed, a little more echo than usual, but O.K. We played with a bit of Assymetrics, Dixie Grand & Spin Chain & Exchange the Gears - it was mostly successful. The members draw jackpots until next week. Thanks to all the members who help set-up and pack -up each week.

26th March 2018
Starting to sound like a broken record, but what a great night at UpBeat last night. 28 through the door, danced 3 squares until halfway through the night and then 2. Played with Load the Boat from T-Bones. All 8 Spin the Top and Spread is almost working great. Somebody has tampered with the lock on our storage box, so we couldn't open it. Will fix it by next dance night. Jim won the members draw. No dancing now until the 16th April due to Easter and floor re-surfacing. We will have a few away over the next month anyway for Commonwealth Games & National Convention.

When is the heat gonna go? Still 27 dancers through the doors tonight. Had a real good go at " Spin Chain & Exchange the gears but stop in a Column. Also did a few "If You Want To" routines with Relay the Deucey. Our numbers are about to drop off due to Dancers travelling to the National Convention in Perth. Glad the dancers don't mind my experimenting a little during the dance night. Therese won the members draw. We are dancing next week and then we have 2 weeks off, see home page for details.

Monday was a really awesome night at UpBeat. We had 29 through the door and danced 3 squares for the early part of the evening until the heat got to everyone. I had a play with "Spin Chain & Exchange the Gears" but when you get to a column STOP. It actually went quite well for a first introduction. Everyone seems to be enjoying the night. The expected poor weather did not eventuate (Thank God), but it was hot.

O.K. Folks, some important News.
As you know, we had already decided NOT to dance on Monday the 2nd April, due to the Easter long weekend. As it now turns out, we will also NOT be able to use the hall on Monday the 9th April. This is due to re-surfacing of the dance floor which will take place between the 3rd and the 13th April.

Fabulous first night. 4 squares of dancers through the door, and we actually danced 4 squares once. Great to see everybody after the long break. I think everybody danced pretty well, considering we were all a bit rusty. Looking forward to a really great year.

11th December 2017 - Christmas party - pictures HERE
What a way to finish the year. 33 dancers in the hall, many in christmas theme dress. There was no entry fee, but more than 160 raffle tickets sold. Linda Long won the 1st prize of a $50 visa card. Other prizes included bottles of wine and a 2018 diary. I alternated between regular and Christmas tunes all evening. Everyone enjoyed a great supper. Thanks to all the Upbeat Ch.a.o.s. dancers for making it such a fun night. There were a few more badge orders, but they'll have to wait until the new year. Dancing will recommence on the 5th February 2018. The brand new Upbeat Ch.a.o.s. banner had it's first "Reveal" last night. My banner guy did a great job. Using the original design, just modernised a bit. There were vinyl stickers (with contact details) in the same design available for everyone to take with them. See you in the new year.
What a way to finish the year. 33 dancers in the hall, many in christmas theme dress. There was no entry fee, but more than 160 raffle tickets sold. Linda Long won the 1st prize of a $50 visa card. 4th December 2017 - Gotta love a good storm threat!
Thanks to the weather bureau for last night. Over-stating the storm threat. Thanks also to the news outlets for over- sensationalising the over-stated weather report. I've gotten wetter from a sprinkler in the back yard. 14 intrepid dancers braved the slightly damp weather and danced at UpBeat. It did give me chance to have a first try at 6 couple Plus - it went O.K. Really looking forward to next week, our Christmas & Break-Up party, Please bring a plate. Door entry is free, but bring some change for the raffle. Lets finish the year with a bang!!!

Bruce the Banner guy brought along the "Proof" of the new club banner. It looks awesome. He's also going to do me some vinyl stickers in the same design. See below. Hopefully we'll have the new banner by our Christmas Party.

Awesome night of Plus dancing. 27 dancers in the hall, we danced 3 squares most of the night. Nice to see so many dancers in the new club badge, another 10 badges ordered last night. Russell arrived with our new storage chest, we've already got Christmas decorations and Tablecloths stored in it. We are waiting on our new club banner. I'd love to have it before the Christmas break. We played with a few left handed concepts (Dixie Grand & Relay the Deucey) last night as well as 1/2 sashayed Co-ordinate and Relay the Deucey. We had a few laughs before we got them perfectly. Betty won $20 for the member draw. I announced that there will no longer be a yearly membership fee - If you have a badge, you are a permanent member. Thanks to all in attendance for a great night.

What a great night. 3 Squares in the Hall, and we did dance 3 squares a couple of times. Great to have Canadian visitors Wayne & Dorothy join us, They were each presented with an Upbeat Chaos visitors badge. Speaking of badges, 17 dancers have ordered new club badges and the order went in this afternoon. A new couple, Jim & Sharon have joined us, they are hoping to improve their Plus dancing skills. I do have a new storage chest for the Club, it will stay at the Hall, unfortunately, I can't fit it in my car. Russell is going to help me out, during the week.

6th November 2017 - Great night
Fabulous night at UpBeat last night. 26 through the door. We did dance 3 squares....once. We played with a number of concepts and finally got my Left Dixie Grand to work. Good to see Heather, Thelli and Di back on the dance floor. Faith would have won the members draw, but she wasn't there. It jackpots to $15 next week. Thanks to everyone for making the changeover fairly seamless and making me so welcome.

30th October 2017 - Glenn's first night as Club caller. Pics HERE
Good night at UpBeat Ch.a.o.s., 3 squares in attendance. Great to see a few dancers in theme dress. "G" was the letter of the night. We had Glenn with the biggest Belt Buckle - letter "G" that has ever been seen. We had John the GARBO, Martin the GORILLA, plenty dressed in GREEN. Hazel had a really nice "Welcome Glenn" blouse, but the lettering kept falling off - leaving some unusual words at times. Thank you all for making me welcome. I'm looking forward to a lot of fun nights.
27th-29th October 2017 - 9th Shindig - more after the event HERE
23rd October 2017 - Gary's farewell party night - more after the event HERE
Fabulous night at UpBeat Ch.a.o.s., 4+ squares in attendance. Gary called a lot of club favourites. I had a couple of brackets. Towards the end of the night, Gary formally handed me the club Banner. The club will hopefully carry on as strong as it has done for the last 17 years. There will be photos to come. Gary also called what he's decided is his new Anthem - "Get a haircut & get a real Job". During a sumptuous supper, the dancers gathered for a group photo. It's now official, I'm the club caller for Upbeat Ch.a.o.s. Good luck Gary, we look forward to having you visit from time to time as your new life allows. We will miss you.
17th October 2017 - Guest caller at Upbeat Chaos.
